SIREN WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT SURVEY
The Western Australian Sexually Transmissible Infection (STI) and Blood-borne Virus (BBV) Workforce Development Survey.
The issue: One of the Western Australian Applied Research and Evaluation Network's (SiREN) aims is to strengthen the research, evaluation and health promotion skills of the workforce involved in the prevention and management of sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and blood-borne viruses (BBVs) in Western Australia. The aim of the survey is to better understand the profile, and research and evaluation capacity building needs of the workforce involved in the prevention and management of STIs and BBVs in Western Australia.

Project summary: The Western Australian Sexual Health and Blood-borne Virus Applied Research and Evaluation Network (SiREN) within the Curtin School of Population Health, Curtin University is conducting a survey that aims to better understand the profile, and research and evaluation capacity building needs of the workforce involved in the prevention and management of sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and blood-borne viruses (BBVs) in Western Australia.
The survey objectives are to

identify and describe the workforce involved in the prevention and management of STIs and BBVs in Western Australia; and
-
explore the program planning, research and evaluation training needs of the workforce involved in the prevention and management of STIs and BBVs in Western Australia.

Relevance for practice: SiREN maintains a network of around 400 professionals working in the sexual health and blood-borne virus space. Through this network SiREN shares the latest sexual health and blood-borne virus evidence, news, events, jobs, funding opportunities, and more. The results from this survey will assist to identify and explore the research and evaluation training needs of the STI and BBV management and prevention workforce. These needs can then be addressed and prioritised through future SiREN projects and training offerings.
Project progress: The project has finished recruiting participants, and is in the stages of data analysis and reporting.

Ethics approval: Curtin University Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) has exempted this study from ethics review (record number EX81121).
